The welding quality of titanium alloy is directly related to the usability and quality of titanium products. Due to the physical and chemical characteristics of the titanium alloy itself, it is susceptible to the influence of hydrogen, helium, and nitrogen during welding, resulting in mass defects such as cracks, pores, tungsten inclusions on the weld, which affects the stability of the entire component.

Retarded cracks may occur in the heat-affected zone during welding of titanium alloys, which generally occur within a period of time after welding. The occurrence of delayed cracks is basically related to hydrogen. Because the hydrogen in the molten pool and the low-temperature zone parent material will diffuse to the heat-affected zone during the welding process, which leads to an increase in the hydrogen content in the heat-affected zone. Under the influence of stress, delayed cracks will occur. In order to prevent the occurrence of delayed cracks, the hydrogen content of the welding joint should be minimized. You can choose a base material and welding wire with less hydrogen content, and clean it before welding.

Do a good job in eliminating residual stress.Air pores are also a common mass defect in titanium alloy welding, mainly including air pores in the middle of the weld and air pores in the fusion line, see Figure 1. Do a good job in quality control of welding wire. Careful inspection should be carried out when selecting welding wire to avoid cracks and interlayers of welding wire. Pulse plasma arc welding in plasma arc welding has a more significant effect on reducing pores than argon arc welding. Unwelded and easy to appear in argon arc welding, which will greatly reduce the strength of the welded joints and is not conducive to the welding quality of the overall welded parts. In order to prevent unwelded, welding can be carried out with slightly larger process parameters, and a pad plate can also be added on the back to effectively prevent unwelded.

Shaanxi Aerospace Nonferrous Metal Processing Co., Ltd. was established in December 2005.
