Product Advantages
(1) Excellent corrosion resistance (core advantage): Exhibits outstanding corrosion resistance in hydrochloric acid (at all concentrations, including boiling state) and sulfuric acid (low to medium concentrations). The corrosion rate is extremely low, making it "unreplaceable" in highly reducing acid environments. Resistance to alkali and oxidizing acids: Exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in caustic soda (such as concentrated NaOH). Performs well in nitric acid (at medium and low temperatures, at medium and low concentrations), and spontaneously forms a dense, self-healing oxide film on the surface, protecting the substrate. Limitations: Not corrosion-resistant in hydrofluoric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, aqua regia, etc., which are highly corrosive media.
(2) Excellent nuclear performance (core advantage): Low neutron absorption cross-section: The thermal neutron absorption cross-section is extremely small (about 0.18 barn), much lower than that of stainless steel and nickel-based alloys, effectively reducing neutron loss, making it an ideal material for nuclear reactor fuel cladding and core structural components. Resistance to irradiation stability: Exhibits small lattice distortion and no obvious irradiation embrittlement in a highly neutron-irradiated environment, maintaining mechanical properties for a long time and meeting the requirements of nuclear power plant long service cycle.
(3) High temperature stability: Maintains good strength and stability at temperatures ranging from 300 to 375°C, can withstand certain pressure and stress, and has good creep resistance. Low elastic modulus: The elastic modulus is relatively low (about 97.1 GPa), resulting in a relatively large elastic deformation under the same load, but the strengthening effect is significant after cold processing.
(4) Unique physical and thermal properties: Low thermal expansion coefficient: The thermal expansion coefficient is extremely small (about 5.3 - 5.6 × 10^-5 / °C), providing good dimensional stability at temperature changes, with small thermal deformation, which is conducive to the assembly of precision components. Low thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity is relatively low (about 18.4 - 20.7 W·m^-1·K^-1), with relatively poor thermal conductivity, but this characteristic becomes an advantage in cases where insulation or as a heat exchanger thin-walled tube is required (reducing tube wall thickness and lowering fouling coefficient). High melting point: The melting point is as high as 1852°C, suitable for applications in high-temperature environments.
(5) Good processing and forming performance: Good plasticity in hot processing (hot extrusion, hot forging): Exhibits good plasticity during hot processing (hot extrusion, hot forging), with moderate deformation resistance, making it easy to be processed into tube blanks. Good cold processing performance: The cold processing (cold rolling, drawing) performance is similar to that of low-carbon steel, facilitating the realization of high-precision dimensions and complex shapes through cold processing, but requires annealing after cold processing to eliminate work hardening and restore plasticity. Note: Pure zirconium tubes are sensitive to impurities (such as oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, iron), and their actual performance may vary with the purity of oxygen grade Zr-3 and the state of heat treatment. In practical applications, selection should be based on specific conditions.
